Autologous Cell Regeneration
What Is Autologous Cell Regeneration?
Autologous means the material comes from the same person who receives it. Here is how it is used in skin treatment, and what The Other Dermatology offers.
Definition
What “autologous” means
In an autologous treatment, the cells or fluid used are taken from the patient’s own body and given back to that same patient. An allogeneic or ready-made product, by contrast, comes from another source.
Sources
Common sources of autologous material
Autologous material is grouped by where in the body it is taken from.
Blood
Blood can be processed to concentrate platelets, or to separate the mononuclear cell (PBMC) layer. Both start from a blood draw.
Fat
Fat tissue, taken by liposuction, can be processed to isolate the stromal vascular fraction (SVF). Published research includes a randomized controlled trial of SVF cells in expanded skin.
Skin
A small skin sample can be processed into a cell suspension, which has been studied in pre-clinical models.
This section describes the categories in general. The Other Dermatology’s own treatment is described below.
Our Treatment
Autologous blood regeneration at The Other
NOVASTEM is a treatment derived from your own blood. Collected blood is centrifuged to separate the PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cell) layer, where the active cells are concentrated, and is then concentrated at high purity using a dedicated kit. It is a minimal-manipulation process with no cell culture.
Before You Decide
Before you decide
This is a non-reimbursed anti-aging and cosmetic procedure, not a treatment for disease. The onset and duration of any effect vary between individuals. Whether it suits you is confirmed at a consultation.
Reference: a randomized controlled trial of autologous SVF cell transplantation for mechanical stretch-induced skin regeneration. The study concerns fat-derived cells and is not about NOVASTEM.
